For their fourth Edinburgh fringe appearance after three sell-out seasons, the ‘stand-up string quartet’ Graffiti Classics are back with new music, new choreography and even a new line up. This internationally acclaimed group have been defying all preconceptions of how a classical group should behave since forming in 1997 from a group of young musicians who met whilst busking in London’s Covent Garden. Their high-energy performances combine a virtuosic command of their instruments, fantastic singing and dancing with a large dollop of comedy. Playing all sorts of music from classical to gypsy, and from jazz to romantic, this quartet has been entertaining audiences around the world for over a decade. Bursting with enthusiasm, Graffiti Classics make sure that audiences of all ages play their part with clapping, singing and much foot stamping – many have tried to resist and failed! The group’s extensive international touring work has so far included concerts for the Irish President, performances on board the QE2, and participation in Yehudi Menuin’s Live Music Now scheme. This festival sees a brand new show following a collaboration with director Chris George whose credits include Fascinating Aida, Chortle Award nominee Psister Psycho, and Grumpy Old Women Live. 'A dazzling foursome with a quick fire concoction of dancing, singing and clowning, all done while they also get their virtuosic fingers around a repertoire running from madrigals and Mozart to tango and even a can-can. This show is a wonderful antidote for those who think that classical music is as staid as stained-glass.' The Times 'The most sensational string quartet on the Fringe. They combine superb classical music skills with inventive comedy and relentless dance energy.' |
